●作家　artist　: 北川安希子　 Kitagawa Akiko ●タイトル Title : 「飛翔ーハシビロコウ　 「Flight—Hornbill」 ●作品サイズ Artwork Size : P10号　(41.0×53.0cm) ●支持体・材料 Supports/Materials : 絹本に墨、岩絵具、純金箔 (Ink and mineral pigments pure gold leaf on Silk) 額縁が付きます。(A frame is included.) ※クリックすると全体画像をご覧いただけます。*Click to the full image. ●作家コメント 動かないことで有名なハシビロコウという鳥を描きました。 この絵のモデルのハシビロコウは、以前に神戸どうぶつ王国で取材したハシビロコウです。 初めは水辺の関連の作品を作ろうと思い、水辺の生き物を探している中で、偶然画廊さんからアドバイスをいただき取材先を知り、10年前から描くようになりました。 凛々しい姿で動かない状態から、羽根を羽ばたかせた時の迫力のある姿に惹かれて作品にしたいと思いました。 ハシビロコウは、アフリカで生息している動かない鳥として有名な鳥であり餌を食べる時は、浅い池などに入り動きを止め、自身がいることを餌となる魚などに悟られないようにした後近くまで来た獲物をくちばしでとらえ捕食します。 こうしたことからハシビロコウの、堂々と動かない姿は、私にとって忍耐強く機会を待っている姿とも見てとれます。 取材中は、なかなか動かないため、動かない隙に他の動物を見に行くべきか迷いますが、動かないと思いニャンタッチコーナーに行き戻った時にハシビロコウが移動（＝飛んだか動いた）しているのを見ると、ものすごく悔しいです。 逆に、ハシビロコウが仕草からもうすぐ動くかもと思い、結局動かず何時間も待っていた時間の意味を考えることもよくあります。 取材中長時間動かない状態からようやく羽ばたき大きな翼を広げる姿を見ることができた時は嬉しくその羽ばたく一瞬の姿を作品にしたいと感じました。　 『忍耐』、『不動＝意志の強さ』、『機会を待つ』という意味を込めて描いております。 ●Artist Comment I painted the shoebill, a bird famous for its immobility. The shoebill featured in this painting is the same one I previously observed at Kobe Animal Kingdom. Initially, I wanted to create a piece related to waterside environments. While searching for aquatic creatures, I happened to receive advice from a gallery owner who suggested this subject. I've been painting it for the past ten years. I was drawn to its dignified, motionless stance and the powerful presence it exudes when it flaps its wings, inspiring me to create this work. The shoebill is a famous African bird known for its immobility. When feeding, it enters shallow pools, stops moving, and remains undetected by its prey—fish and other small creatures. It then captures and consumes prey that comes close with its beak. Because of this, the stork's dignified, motionless stance also strikes me as a symbol of patiently waiting for the right moment. During fieldwork, since they rarely move, I often wonder if I should take the chance to observe other animals. But when I think they're still and head to the cat petting corner, only to return and find the stork has moved (flown or shifted position), it's incredibly frustrating. Conversely, I often find myself pondering the meaning of hours spent waiting, convinced from its movements that it would soon move, only for it to remain perfectly still. When, after long periods of inactivity during my research, I finally witnessed it flap its wings and spread its large wingspan, I was overjoyed and felt compelled to capture that fleeting moment of flight in my work. Her expression of the ephemeral nature of objects reflected through the surface of water, which change in an instant depending on time and climate, leads the viewer into a deep spiritual world of past and present, light and darkness, life and death, and more.
